Members of the Engineering Student Societies’ Council of Ontario met in Ottawa during the Ontario Engineering Competition. Over 3 days the team worked to set individual and team goals for the second half of the 2017-2018 term. The team hopes to accomplish several new events including an interschool blood-drive, hockey and soccer tournament, and better partnerships with external organizations.

ESSCO President Andrew Cook met with the Council of Ontario Dean’s of Engineering (CODE) during the same weekend. Andrew presented recent changes to the organizational structure of ESSCO including working groups and the development of the directorship positions. Working groups are small teams of students from several universities working together to research and create a report on an advocacy issue facing engineering students. The current working groups include Engineering Tuition, Experiential Learning, and Mental Health. Looking to get involved with a working group, or form your own? Email

Representatives from ESSCO also participated in the OEC advisory board meeting. ESSCO hopes to work with the board to create a long-term website for competition rules, policies, and history. The team will be working on a memorandum of understanding to be presented at the next OECAB meeting.
